Passing of Randy Pausch

Professor Randy Pausch, the computer scientist at Cargenic Mellon University who gave ‘The Last Lecture’ about facing terminal cancer and challengers in life, died of pancreatic cancer on July 25. He was 47. I’ve added the clip for the benefit of those who have not watched his lecture. The clip is about 1hr 16min but its worth all the time. For those who have not watch his touching lecture, please watch it. It may change your views on life.

Randy Pausch has also co-authored the book “The Last Lecture” with Jeffrey Zaslow. In the book contains the topics of his lecture and how he went about writing the book. A must read to know how to face Life.
Other than “The Last Lecture”, I also love this other 2 books on Life: “Chasing Daylight” and “Tuesdays With Morrie”
“Chasing Daylight” was written by Eugene O’Kelly, who was diagnoised with late stage brain cancer at age 53 when he was the Chairman and CEO of KPMG. He was given 6 months to live.

Written by Mitch Albom, this book documents the meetings of Mitch and his university professor, Morrie Schwartz who has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and learning how to die.

All the 3 books have 1 thing in common: a dying person’s view on how to live and view Life. There is a chinese saying:
“人即将死,其言也善,鸟即将亡,其鸣也哀”
Pardon my translation, rougly tanslated, it means: “A dying man speaks a virtous talk, A dying bird sings a sorrowful song.”
We are always tied up with the demands of everyday life to pay attention to how to live it. Sometimes it is the little things may cause us a lifetime of regret. Through these books, I seek to learn how to live Life and minimise my regrets. It is not easy, but I am trying.
