Don’t Time The Market

Written By: Tiang Chuan on October 23, 2008 No Comment

One of the biggest mistakes in investing is trying to time the market. From retail investors to the so called investment ‘experts’, you can hear them say how much you can make by buying at point X and selling at point Y. Anyone can be a perfect investor with the benefit of perfect hindsight. If it is so easy to time the market, there wouldn’t be any poor man left.

The following are some investment matrix showing the the returns of different regions and asset class over different time periods. As you can see, different region and asset class outperform at different periods of time. And there is almost no way of predicting it consistently. Click on the figure for clearer view.

So, for those who are still trying to time the market, perhaps now is the time to start doing some serious investing.
