Don’t Lose Touch
The first 3 weeks of of 2009 has been filled with joyous occasions. 2 friends got married and held their weddings dinners over the past weekends. 1 of them held a dinner each in Kuala Selangor and Singapore. I was privileged enough to be among the brothers to help out in all 3 wedding dinners. Another 2 friends became fathers for a 2nd time with one of the babies being the first baby born in 2009.
Amidst the joy and celebrations, I received the sad news of the passing Mr John Kong, a respected senior member of Promiseland. How life is unpredictable and transient…
Mr John Kong has been battling cancer for more than 2 years. He was in office whenever he could and always had a ready smile and tried to make time for everyone. He was ever willing to provide advise and information, even when he was receiving treatment in the hospital.
The last time I met him was around 2 months ago. It was a rainy night and I was working late alone in office. When I saw him coming into office, he was noticeably frailer looking. Yet he was still full of smiles and care, asking how I was. I asked him how he was and he shared that he was having some gastric problems that was keeping him awake at night. Later, I asked him why was he coming back to office on a rainy night. He replied that a client wanted a hard copy of a travel insurance and he was in office to print it out from his laptop he kept in office. This could have been easily done by another adviser and as far as I know, a hard copy and soft copy of the documents would be sent to the client directly by the insurer anyway. Such was the dedication to his job and client by this good man.
During this time of painful lost, our MD, Mr David Choo has magnanimously decided to grant all future renewal commissions to Mr John Kong’s family. This generous gesture is in stark contrast to the news of how some FA companies are hitting back at their advisers who decided to leave their organization. The promise of money and higher commissions is not everything. To join a firm based solely on monetary rewards could be a relationship based solely on the ‘root of evil’. When the going gets tough, would there be anyone there to keep you going?
During the coming Chinese New Year, do remember to keep in touch with your friends, family and loved ones.
