A brilliant business plan

A friend shared a ‘business plan’ which I think is brilliant for the business owner but simply lousy for the customer. Here’s how it works:

Write a simple program that generates random numbers. Sell it to 4D punters claiming the numbers were derived from ‘sophisticated proprietary statistical models’ that utilities past winning numbers. Spread the news to as many as possible and take out advertisements on major newspapers claiming you can get rich by striking 4D using the ‘proprietary system’.

As this is a numbers game, the more the number of people who buys the software, the higher the chances of the program actually generating a winning number randomly. If there is someone who actually strikes, attract more customers by publishing the winnings on the media and claiming credit on the ‘propertary system’ even thought the winning is due to pure luck. The system will become popular and the frenzy will feed on itself. With more people buying the software, the higher the chances of more winnings. And the cycle continues.

Who do you think of the idea? Interested to implement it? I am afraid others might have already beat you to it. Read the papers and you will know…
